HOLY FREAKING CLIFFHANGER! Well, Ms. Hawkins sure does like to keep us hangin', that's for sure!I really liked the story in Hex Hall, so I was anxious to get my hands on Demonglass. I'm happy to say that I enjoyed this book even more than the first. Like in Hex Hall, my favorite thing about this book is Sophie and her snide humor. She seriously cracks me up! I wish that she was my friend in real life. I would just be laughing all the time. I love sarcasm and quick wit, and she was full of both.I thought it was strange that the series is called Hex Hall, when they spent this entire book in London, instead of at the school, but I have to say I liked that they got away. It was an interesting turn of events that Sophie got to spend some time getting to know her dad. And also getting to know Cal. I really, really liked Cal a lot. I wish we would have seen MORE of him. My favorite parts of the book were when Sophie and Cal were hanging out together.However, I know deep down that she will probably end up with Archer. Archer didn't bug me nearly as much this time around as he did last time. Or I should say, Sophie's behavior toward him didn't bug me as much. I felt like in the first book Sophie really needed to get a backbone, but this time I thought she was so much better. I loved the banter between Sophie and Archer. I think Sophie's sarcasm is at its best when he's around. I found myself letting go of the negative feelings that I had toward him.....and that is quite an accomplishment!I liked the introduction of the new characters in the story. I thought that they added a dark and mysterious element which I love. And just like in the first book, there were plenty of plot twists. The storyline is great and I can't wait to see where it goes.(The following is only an observation, not a bash on the author. I don't think the similarities are intentional) (Also, possible spoilers, so skip this paragraph if you want)The only thing I had trouble with was that I felt like this book is SO similar to the Evernight series by Claudia Gray. Has anyone else noticed the similarities? The stories are so close that I actually found myself getting confused about what happened in which book. Bianca/Sophi goes to a creepy school for paranormals. Bianca/Sophie falls for jerkish boy Lucas/Archer. Nice guy Balthazar/Cal is a great friend, and the sensible choice that Bianca/Sophie's parents want her to be with, but Bianca/Sophie can't help falling for Lucas/Archer. BUT Lucas/Archer ends up working for the mortal enemy of Bianca/Sophie and has to run for his life to join back up with The Black Cross/The Eye, and Bianca/Sophie feels betrayed. But Bianca/Sophie has a secret of her own, she's not really a human/witch she's really a vampire/demon. Bianca/Sophie then spends the next school year with Balthazar/Cal, getting closer to him, but can't let go of Lucas/Archer. And of course she handles it all with the help of her lesbian best friend and roommate Raquel/Jenna. I mean, I was seriously getting confused. But, still.....this didn't keep me from enjoying the book. I just hope that I don't find out the ending of Hex Hall by reading Afterlife, haha! (I have to say, out of the two, I enjoy Sophie more, and Rachel's writing more....though I like them both.)Spoilers over~Overall, I thought this was a fantastic book, with a thrilling ending that leaves you completely hanging, wanting the next book in your hands now!Andyehttp://ReadingTeen.net/
