Starcrossed

Starcrossed - I was seriously surprised by how much I liked this book. From the cover, it just didn't seem like something I would pick up on my own, but I read a lot of good reviews, so that got me interested. I actually didn't have any idea what it was about when I started it. So, it was exciting to figure out what was going on with Helen right along with her. Of course if I had paid attention to anything, like the cover, or her name, or the names of the new family that moved into town, it would have been obvious (but, I was apparently not in a thinking mood). I will say, right off the bat, this book has a LOT of similarities to Twilight. A LOT. Normally, when I reading things like, "This book will appeal to fans of The Twilight Saga" it makes me want to vomit, but in this case, it's really true. I also usually get annoyed with books that have so many similarities, but in this case, I didn't. Even though there were many parallels, this book was just written well. Josephine Angelini wrote Starcrossed similar enough to Twilight that you will love it, and different enough from Twilight that you won't hate it. Does that make sense. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you loved Twilight, you will like this one too, but if you hated Twilight, you might find that you still like Starcrossed. The biggest reason that's true, is Helen. Helen is no Bella.Helen is a fantastic heroine. I loved that even though she had an enormous amount of power at her disposal, she would do anything to keep from hurting people. While it might have been easy for her to use her "brawn," she preferred to use her brains instead. She was kind, but she was no doormat. She was inexperienced, but she could still kick butt when she needed to. She didn't need rescuing, she would do the rescuing herself. Then there was the Delos family. I loved them all. The romantic tension between Helen and Lucas was intense!! I absolutely ate it up, and wanted to pull my hair out at the same time. Talk about frustrating!!! But in a good way. And did anyone else end up crushing on Hector? I love him! The storyline is fantastic. I love Greek Mythology, so I loved rehashing all the old myths, but I also really enjoyed the "true and untold" stories that Josephine makes up. She takes all the stories we're familiar with, and adds her own little twist to them. It does end in somewhat of a cliffhanger. I was really hoping it wasn't a series....I've seriously had enough of series, but it is. It will definitely be one that I stick with, though, and those are getting few and far between!I think that if the Percy Jackson series and the Twilight series had a baby, Starcrossed would be that child. I really liked this book. I think you will like it too! Try it on audio!Andye
