AT A GLANCE:The Immortal Rules is a brilliantly written story, full of non-stop action, mystery, and romance...oh yeah, and there's blood! I loved every moment of it!VAMPIRES?I am not a pro-vampire book person, or an anti-vampire book person, which I think is important to know. There are actually very few vampire books out there that I have liked enough to actually add to my bookshelf and recommend to my friends. This will be one of them from now on. ACTION:I was a big fan of Julie’s Iron Fey series, but in my opinion, this book blew them out of the water. I’m not sure I’ve ever read a book where I felt on the edge of my seat at practically every moment. The Immortal Rules was FULL of suspenseful moments, PACKED with action, and LOADED with intensity. When I saw that it was a 500-page book, I have to be honest, I was ready for series syndrome, lots of boring filler moments. But I can honestly tell you; I was not bored for one minute. When I was talking to a friend about it, she said it was like reading four different books in one (because there are four parts), and I absolutely agree. Often, when books are broken into different “parts,” I don’t really understand why, or what the point is, but in this book, it made perfect sense. Not only did the story drastically change in those moments, but it also gave you a chance to breathe...something you’ll otherwise forget to do!LORE:One thing I really appreciated was that Julie didn’t take anything for granted about our vampire knowledge. There were new (to me) and old vampire qualities, and she did a great job of explaining them, without boring those who already know. I think this is really important in the post-Twilight world where many may never have read the older vampire stories, and don’t know what vampires are supposed to be like. I found all of it fascinating, and it made me think of a mixture of Interview with a Vampire, The Underworld Series, and, oddly enough, The Walking Dead. All of which I loved! Julie mixes science and fantasy and puts them into an apocalypse bomb, creating this fantastic...or horrific…world.ROMANCE:Can I just say, perfection? This was my favorite kind of romance: The tension, the build-up, the NO INSTA-LOVE, did I say the tension? This was no easy romance, that’s for sure. At times it was torturous and sad, but somehow it was still completely satisfying and I loved it!THE HEROINE:Can I just say hardcore and leave it at that? This chick rocked, and I loved her. Yeah, she made some stupid moves, but who can blame her? Sometimes you just have to learn the hard way, and Allie’s not about to be told what to do. I can’t wait to see what she does next!CLIFFHANGER?I know what you’re thinking. Another series? But something I have always loved about Julie’s books is that each of them has their own story arc. The Immortal Rules is no exception. Although you can see that there’s a bigger story in the making, this book has a sense of finality when it ends. No huge cliffhanger! THANK YOU, JULIE!! Now, give me the next book! :DCOVER LOVE?I adore the cover. I loved it from the moment I saw it, and now that I’ve read the book, I love it even more. The only complaint I have, is that I wish they had used an Asian model. Allie is Asian, and I think it would have been awesome to see that represented on the cover. Otherwise, love.WILL I BUY IT?Uh…do you have to ask? Yes. I will buy this book in pretty hardcover and I will share it with all my friends!
