I have to say, I had my doubts about this book. I wanted a happy book (I think I've been reading too many distopians lately and I wanted to read something where they weren't constantly in mortal danger.) And when Andye went to ALA Midwinter, I asked her to pick up something for me that had an Anna and the French Kiss feel to it. When she told a few publishers what I had asked for, someone lead her to this. She brought it back and I was completely ecstatic... then I read the back where it clearly states that Lauren Oliver says it is, "Inventive, gorgeous, funny and yes ... heartbreaking. You will absolutely love this book." and one word stood out to me like no other: heartbreaking. I believe I said something like: "When the heck are happy and heartbreaking the same thing?!?! NEVER."I eat my words. Yes, The Catastrophic History of You and Me is both happy and heartbreaking. Yes, at the same time. I couldn't explain it any better. It is both exciting and frustrating, lovable and agonizing, hilarious and touching, happy and heartbreaking. And it is a love story unlike any I've ever read before. The twists and turns may just blow your mind even while they break your heart. So just drop any expectations or theories you might already have about what it's about or how it ends... because you're bound to be wrong anyways.
