Siege and Storm

Siege and Storm - At a Glance:The Grisha Trilogy continues to be one of my favorite series. Leigh Bardugo never fails to amaze me with her brilliant world building and fascinating characters. In Siege and Storm, I was again plunged into this imaginative world that she created. With fighting, powers, a looming war, a terrifying yet alluring villain, a struggling romance, and a new character that adds another dimension to the story, Siege and Storm definitely lives up to its predecessor!Cover:These covers are some of my all-time favorites. They're so different and creative. I love them!Action:There continues to be a lot of action in this book. The fighting is very intense in certain scenes, and with the threat of war and the Darkling, there's never a dull moment!Romance:The romance was frustrating in this book, as I suppose is the way of things in book 2. Mal was seriously driving me insane. I swear he was being such a whiny little turd! Not that Alina was helping much. I got to the point where I just wanted Sturmhond, the Privateer who Alina meets, to sweep in and show Mal how it's done.....Heroine:Alina is tough as crap. She had a lot of struggles in this book, and a lot of inner turmoil. She wants to be powerful enough to face the Darkling, without becoming power hungry like he is. I really love being inside her head. Most of the time, when a character is supposedly trying to decide which path to take, one of those paths isn't even believable. With Alina, I really didn't know what she would choose, and I liked that.Favorite Supporting Character:Sturmhond, Sturmhond, Sturmhond!!!! I loved him so much! He added a whole new element to the book and I'm so glad he was in it. He was funny and clever and so charming! I think he's one of the most intelligent characters in the book and I'm just about to say, "Down with Mal!!" that's how much I like him. Something I loved:Besides Sturmhond? Uh...the Darkling. I love a villain that you kind of like and also hate. That's seriously a hard thing to accomplish. The Darkling totally gives me the chills, but I also kind-of love him. Twisted, I know.Something(s) I hated:Just the way Mal behaved.Cliffhanger? Not a huge cliffhanger, things felt somewhat resolved, but you definitely know there's more to the story, and I can't wait to find out what it is!Would I recommend it?If you like high fantasy, you will love this series! Did my friends like it? Elisa loved it! :DWill I buy/keep it?I have an ARC, but I'm totally buying a hard cover. Have to have a matching set!Book Doppelgangers:The Seven Realms (The Demon King) by Cinda Williams-Chima, The Seven Kingdoms (Graceling) by Kristin Cashore, Brightly Woven by Alexandra Bracken, The Poison Study Series by Maria V Snyder, Reckless by Cornelia Funke-AndyeReadingTeen.netContent: Content was less than Shadow & Bone
